Kent's Kitchen (Chinatown)
Kent's Kitchen has two locations:  Keefer Street in Chinatown and Victoria Drive. I visited the Chinatown location today where customers can choose to dine in or take out whereas the location at Victoria Drive is only take out. The Victoria Drive location also has BBQ duck, BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken, etc. available.

Kent's Kitchen's menu

Allow yourself lots of time because they are bound to be packed with people, especially during meal hours. As shown in the picture, it was quite packed when I visited. Good thing they have the number system so it helps keep people in order. Remember to take a number right when you get there!

Wondering why they are so popular, I talked to a several people, including non-Asians. Basically, there are 3 main reasons: cheap, big quantities, and yummy.Their lunch specials are very reasonably priced and does leave you very full. However, if you just want some extra dishes for lunch or dinner, you can also order that specific item in two sizes: large or small. Most of the time, I just look at what they have out and let me senses tell me what I want instead of looking at the menu.

I got the lunch special, chow mein with 2 toppings ($4.75) to go in which they packed it in a nice re-usable plastic box. These "toppings" are called 熟餸 in Cantonese. I chose my two favourite: sweet & sour pork(甜酸肉/咕嚕肉) and honey garlic spare ribs. I have to admit, most of the items you choose would probably taste better with rice than noodles it goes great with the sauce that comes along, but I'm a noodle kind of person, usually.

Sweet and sour pork is a popular Cantonese dish that is basically deep fried pork stir-fried in a sweet and sour sauce in bite-sized pieces. Kent's Kitchen's sweet and sour pork is definitely one of the better ones. I've had some very horrible sweet and sour pork where the fried batter doesn't stick to the meat or when the meat is way too fat. The honey garlic spare ribs was also very tasty and it contained some white soft bones which I know some people may like. Another one of my favourite Chinese dish (熟餸 ) is eggplants. They are super oily and I believe they are slightly fried, but they are very tasty and not something that I can make at home! I think in general, the dishes at Kent's Kitchen will be oily, as it's Chinese cuisine...
